I have a number of goals, skils, and habits I want to achieve, learn, and set respectively, but have trouble actually doing the small steps to get these done. I know all the tricks like breaking goals into bitsized parts and getting them done, but my mornings are filled with exercise and getting ready for work so I only have after work to get these done.
I recently listened to a podcast with Oren John on it and he talked about doing something every day for 30 to 100 days to get better at that thing and hold yourself accountable. This post will be the start of these things and for the next 30 days (strive for the minimum goal) I will be reporting here on the habits I want to set.
I’ll try and chop up some of these goals and habits into edible size à la best practices seen from the likes of James Clear, Tim Ferriss, etc. but will largely be setting the goals and the reasoning here for a guidance of why.
Blog
Probably my biggest role model Tim Ferriss started with blogging and I’ve become more interested in it as a medium of expression. I wanted to get better at expressing my thoughts and being less afraid to press the publish button, helping me create and produce more efficiently and care-free in the long term.
While it may be less sharable, it will help me in my goal of formulating my thoughts better. I often feel i’ve become dumber since University, probably because I read and write much less. I’d like to get back to that and the best form of doing so might be blogging. While it won’t be as structured or try-hard as my University papers, I hope the internal reflection will provide me with better structured thoughts.
I’ll also add an image to these to get myself to take more pictures.
Meditate
Meditation is supposed to reduce anxiety, improve focus and mental clarity, provide more control of mood and desires, and a myriad of other benefits that sound pretty nice. I tried meditation a few years ago in University and found it difficult to get into, but I’d like to give it another shot. Maybe to observe the self from a distance, or to be able to be more whole in my self, but probably more because so many successful people do it.
Spanish Learning
I have a goal that I may or may not ever achieve of biking from Alaska to Argentina. One of my biggest fears of that is being in another continent where I cannot understand anyone, especially potentially hostile individuals. Spanish will help butter the wheels in the machine of that actually happening, while supposedly making me smarter. Also, Spain seems like a place I could potentially live so Spanish is good for that.
Slow Carb
Can you tell I’m a big Tim Ferriss fan yet? One thing I’d like to do is stick to Slow Carb for 30 days. I’ve been easing myself into it until all the carbs and banned food I have in my house is gone, but even then I’m finding excuses to unallowed sneak some carbs throughout the day. I want to do this as over the last couple months I’ve been bulking a bit to regain some strength I’d lost from the lifestyle change that came from moving into my new apartment. With this diet, I ultimately want to reduce late-afternoon fatigue, increase strength, decrease BMI, potentially show abs, without losing much muscle. Ultimately, show my abs more while retaining muscle. This supposedly should help in this recomp effort as it is meant to reduce body fat through fewer insulin spikes, while maintaining or gaining muscle through high protein. We shall see.
Less Coffee, More Tea
I am definetly prone to anxiety and I think coffee may exacerbate that. I want to try drinking less coffee on a daily basis and replace it with tea and water. I’ve already started drinking more tea before bed to help me sleep.
Read 10 pages per day
Reading feeds the mind and writing tidies it. and I’ve got a big appetite
…
I’ll report on updates to this challenge every day at the bottom of my posts. I may also include somewhere in my posts the things I’m into or find interesting. Wish me luck.
